The Beach at Home

Ok, I’m almost ready to let go of summer. Just wanted to share a few of my beach-y decorations from here in my apartment.

Continuing the Beach Passion

I know it is Thanksgiving and I SHOULD be packing. I am really excited about my Thanksgiving trip to see my son, sister, brother and family…but I just can’t seem to get going. Browsing some of the other blogs I read, I landed on Lani’s recommendation – small space style – and I started to remember the beach styles I saw this summer. I have a plan to change my apartment decorating with the seasons, and I have lots of orange/pink/purple stuff for fall, but I just can’t seem to let go of my aqua summer colors which were inspired by my trip to North Carolina. Here is one place we stayed – a cute beachy place on Topsail Island.

Summer memories

p1010113.jpgp1010106.jpg

I LOVE to travel. I am a pretty sensual person and when I visit a place, it is like I can crawl inside of it and feel it from every angle and no one can ever take that away from me. And that’s why, for me, photos are awesome. Every time I see a photo of a place I’ve been, I can relive being there. Ever since our trips to the east coast when I was a kid, I’ve loved the ocean. The ocean, the beach, just sand, water and sky…that is my perfect world. Where is the green then, you ask? Yeah, I know, but we need the water to make the world green, so I guess I have a passion for green and blue. I know winter is coming, but I am not ready to let go of my summer memories yet. At night before I fall asleep, I wander on the beach in my thoughts, tasting the strong salt air, soothed by the rhythm of the waves, lost in the immensity of a place with no land…out there. I can just imagine the stars popping out after the sunset and feel the breeze on my face. The sand pipers are running towards and away from the bubbling waves, making me laugh!

Between fall and winter

p1010108.jpgp1010129.jpgp1010126.jpg

November is an interesting month. This morning I awoke to the sound of my card table on the veranda blowing down a couple of doors to the neighbor’s. That, combined with the frigid temperature in my apartment reminded me that winter is not far away. And yet when I looked out the window, I still saw leaves blowing across the grass and some gold left on the maple tree across the street. I took the photos above about a week ago. I started my photo trip in a frosty car, found some amazing fog over by the athletic fields and ended with the sun glimmering through the fall leaves. Yesterday, a teenage friend was speaking about the signs of the times…an empty corn field…a sign that the harvest is safely in. For me, winter is a quiet time, a time to rest, snuggle in bed, read, reflect. I look forward to winter and the signs that indicate it isn’t far away….frost on the pumpkin…..the wind on the veranda.
