Sometimes when I am in a bad mood, I paint. It usually helps me feel better. I paint just for myself, no technique, just feeling. So the other night, I came up with this, which I am calling February Snow. It’s an oil painting with some fabric hearts glued on and a splash of carding glitter from the days when Valerie was here and had carding parties. Does anyone remember those?!! As I looked out my office window, I was inspired by the web of tree branches behind my apartment complex aglow with the setting sun and I threw in a star, most probably Venus, because I’ve enjoyed seeing it so much this winter at night from my balcony.

Making Outfits
According to blogs and lifestyle news articles, we’re all dipping way back into our closets instead of going out to buy new pieces for our wardrobes. I’ve been reusing old pieces, not only for the sake of thrift, but because I can’t seem to find good replacements. But lately, I’ve really gotten into trying to make new outfits inspired by photos or inspiration boards I see on the internet. This one I call mahogany library, inspired by a board on Snippet and Ink. (Don’t get the impression I have any interest in weddings, which are featured on Snippet and Ink, I just love color and this blog plays with it better than any other I read!) The brown skirt is from Avenue, seems to be irreplaceable and I’ve worn it probably twice a week for the last NINE years! The mahogany/wine corduroy Lee shirt was a gift from my sister, the black tee shirt is a standby from Target and I made the tie especially for the outfit so it had a bookish feel! I include the shoes, very weary worn, I know, but they have been amazingly comfortable and long lasting for the last nine years too…..my first pair of Ecco shoes. Here’s a close up, and the Snippet and Ink board that inspired me. Cheap thrills, huh?!
Happy Valentine’s Day
Hope everyone had a nice V day, if you are into that sort of thing! Here are some pics from mine. Who would have guessed that HyVee would be the perfect place to take Valentine’s Day photos? I tried to take a picture of Steven and me, but when one person is 5 foot even and the other is 6 foot 2 inches, it’s kind of hard! We had a wonderful dinner at King Buffet complete with cream puffs and strawberries and took advantage of Papa Johns heart shaped pizza for sups. I did make a few hand made Valentines, but still haven’t gotten them all mailed out! And Saturday is March 1, isn’t it? Guess I better get going!
My roommate left me!
On Valentine’s Day, Steven was far enough along on his move to take Gray Kitty to his new duplex. My allergies really weren’t as bad as I’d thought they would be (three cheers for Zyrtec!) and I enjoyed her stay at my place for a few weeks, but Gray Kitty really belongs with Steven and I’m glad he was able to find a place that permitted cats.
While she was still at my place and the weather improved, she often sat looking out the sliding glass doors.
It could be worse!
No, this is not what it looks like outside my sliding glass door right now! But even though the snow is melted away, things are still brown, dirty looking and it’s “bloody cold outside” (in best pirate voice, or something). So, I have to remind myself that it could be worse. It’s not 20 below zero F, I am not scraping snow and ice off my car and my non-winter shoes are not getting full of snow every time I step out the door. The days are getting longer and I can hear the birds starting their mating chatter in the mornings, so spring can’t be too far off!
