I actually carved pumpkins this year!!!!! I am so excited. If you know me well, you’d know that I am usually at least two weeks behind on holiday things. (Like, I still haven’t mailed Ian his birthday present….I’m a BAD mom!) And I do have Halloween cards for Ian and my sister..I bought them TWO weeks ago, but are they in the mail? (no) So anyway, it was a big deal to get the pumpkins carved before Thanksgiving! It brought back lots of good memories of carving a pumpkin with dad (Lani, where did we learn that one pumpkin was not enough?!!) I stole the kitty cat face directly from Lani’s blog and got some inspiration from some other surfing of Google images. No trick 0r treat-ers here in my apartment complex, but I am hoping some of my neighbors enjoy the jack-o-lanterns. I’ve enjoyed the Halloween lights on the balcony across the parking lot and their cute witch blowing around in the wind!

The boot!
I’ve had a pleasantly busy couple of weeks…busy coming and going…and banging up my foot…and having company. Well, the banging of the foot wasn’t so pleasant, but all of Steven’s good care and help was wonderful! Anyway, here is a picture of the boot, for those that have been asking. This was taken at an amazing “junk” sale last Saturday…more about that later!
Good grief, where did October go?
Although the month isn’t quite gone, it feels like I’ve lost some of it, at least on the blog here. We have a hymn that says, “life passes like a dream”. This month has been a very beautiful dream, at any rate. New workers, new gospel meetings, new babes, beautiful days, peace and rest, swimming at the ARF center, very satisfying work, sweet companions, tasty apples and sewing!
Headed to Convention
I’m heading east to a farm outside the little town of Malcom, Iowa for our annual spiritual convention. This photo was taken in the countryside nearby and has been an inspiration for some of my sewing art that is going to be for sale at the Octagon Center for the Arts in Ames. I’m looking forward to rich days…see you in September!
Biking
Awesome bike rack, don’t you think? It was a very nice gift from my sister. I’ve been bike riding some this summer, and actually find that it is good for my knees, but I haven’t been out as much as I’d like. I foolishly went out one day around noon and got over heated, but I think now that fall is on its way, it would be a perfect time to get out more. Ames, except for a few major hills, is almost bicycle heaven….we have so many nice bike paths. My dream is to ride part of RAGBRAI some day, the Register’s Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa! Thinking about exercise in general, I’m still kind of amazed at how easy it was to be active when I was a child. I walked 8 blocks (not quite the proverbial two miles of grandparents and pioneers and such!) to school and home, twice a day, as we came home for lunch back then. We had recess before school, one at 10 am and another at 2pm. And, I lived in a town where, from age seven upwards, I could ride my various bicycles all over town, even as far as Wallace school and Kilgore Park, oh…and Sinnissippi Park! Hmmm, just ran into this website that has user generated bike ride info and maps for Sterling, IL as I was looking up the spelling of Kilgore. Anyway, happy bike trails!
The bikes Steven and I rode in Glenwood Springs Canyon this summer.
A scene from RAGBRAI 2008 where I was an observer only…but someday….!
Back to school
Wow, where has the summer gone? I’m thinking today of all my little friends and wishing them wonderful teachers and happy school days. I believe the first teachers a child has are sooooo important. They set the tone for one’s whole educational experience. I don’t remember much about kindergarten except my awesome Halloween costume, but in first grade, for some reason, Miss Long thought I was fantastic, and that carried me through at least 7th grade!
Looking forward to school pictures from everyone! I’m thinking this cutie pie will be starting kindergarten this year! Time flies!
Change of plans, again
After more thinking (sometimes thinking actually pays off!) I’ve decided to leave Passion for Green as it is and designate it as my personal blog, which is pretty much business as usual. I’m starting a different blog for more professional type things. So….back to the fun blogging!
It’s seems to be the time of summer when everyone is on vacation. I’m glad I had mine early this year! I needed it! Here are a few pics from a vacation with my sister a few years back. We were in North Carolina and Virginia, reliving bygone years and visits to our aunt and the ocean.
I’ve loved the roar of the waves, the sand, the seagulls and shells, ever since I was a teenager….morning walks on the beach, sunsets, the smell of fish, the taste of crab cakes and other fish…good memories.
