Happy Saturday!

“Oh come on….it’s SATURDAY! I worked hard all week, got up, chased squirrels, barked like crazy, excelled at being cute, licked your face when you were feeling down, ran my laps around the house every day….

Surely I earned the right to just roll over and go back to sleep!”

(Meagnon’s Monty when he came for an overnight a few years ago, relax, I did NOT get another dog!)

I want you back in my life again

I guess this was a Carpenters song, WAY back when!  It popped into my head tonight when I was looking at these photos.  Some of you would know that I have allergies, most especially to cats, and that since moving to Iowa I have “made do” with my faithful little cotton kitty who is just the sweetest thing who never makes me sneeze!  But there was a day when I had a bio kitty named Sally.  I brought her to Iowa but was not able to keep her.  A very kind lady named Bonnie gave her a new home…but now Bonnie is gone, and Sally has come back in my life.  I don’t know if the new allergy meds on the market now will allow me to keep her long term, bur for now, I have my two girls together!  And they are pretty sweet!!!!!

The Beloit Pines

I love substitute teaching at Beloit Residential Treatment Center.  I love the kids, the staff….and mostly, I love the pine trees out back!  They seem like a perfect place for a Winnie-the-Pooh picnic!

Back when I had more time, I created this picture art with PictureIt.  It’s Sweetpea, plugged into a painting of Christopher Robin under the pines.  My brother gave me this book back in 1964 and I still enjoy reading Pooh stories from it today!

Doll House?

Sweetpea's thinking room

Did you have a doll house when you were a child?  The most exciting feature I had on my metal, 1960′s doll house was a door bell that really worked!  Now that I think about it, that was a reflection of how important visiting was when I was a kid.  Neighbors were always popping in and out.  We didn’t lock our doors back then, even at night, but someone who was looking for Dad might ring the door bell and then just stick his head in the kitchen.  There was always coffee in the thermal pot and usually cookies in the cookie jar. The kitchen table was our version of Facebook, the place to get caught up on all the news!

I don’t have dolls these days, but I do have bunnies, six to be exact and last year I made each one an office of sorts.  My crafty urges still need an outlet, even in middle age.  Picking a random photo to blog about today, I wound up with this.  Sweetpea is my earthy bunny, very “green” and all that!  He likes natural wood, flowers, and long walks in the forest with his binoculars.

Children’s Spring Art

Baby red birds

As the wind chills approach -20 below zero tonight, I’m trying to put some positive thoughts of spring out there!  This is an example I did once for a Mommy and Me class I taught.  I love craft puffs!  I also love how, even though it is so cold, I still hear birds singing and twittering in the mornings now!

I’m sure the rabbits are all anxious for spring and some tender green grass to nibble!

Sweet spring dreams everyone!

Everts Floral in Ames Iowa: Presenting Daisy!

Steven and I lost our Gray Kitty Girl this year due to the inevitability of old age.  So maybe you can imagine my delight when I walked into Everts floral and gift shop in downtown Ames and saw this.  A stuffed version of our girl, sitting in a chair with a stuffed bear?  But then she moved!  Oh joy, I couldn’t wait to trick Steven into coming to the flower shop to share my discovery.  When I got him in the front door though….no kitty.  I tried to pretend I was wandering around looking for some decoration, but I was madly trying to figure out where Daisy could be hiding.  Finally I gave up and asked, and pretty soon, a college aged girl came around the corner with the almost twin to our kitty in her arms!  We had lots of nice petting and some soft purrs…oh….and I bought some flowers too!  Maybe this is one reason Everts is a mainstay of downtown Ames – service with a smile and a heart!

Snowy Girl

This photo is from last year, but even though she is gone now, this snow brought back memories of the night we slipped out in the white stuff for a few minutes!

Doggy Days

Speaking of non human encounters,  on my list of Thanksgiving To Do’s this year was: have some doggy time!  Thanks to one of my BFF’s, it happened.  It reminded me of stopping in Washington, PA at Esther and her brother’s house on the way to visit my mom’s sister in Deltaville, VA.  Back in the 60′s they had an amazing outdoor swimming pool, horses to ride, and very big dogs which really made me fear for my life.  I always LOVED dogs, but these were just a little too much.  So yesterday, it was nice to realize I’ve grown up, even to the big dogs in my life!
